CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVE

Polished Nails Lounge is a nail polish studio that sells & promotes various nail polish brands. In an effort to invite customers to try out new nail colors in a post-pandemic world, the nail studio is in need of a marketing campaign that is engaging, fun, and relatable to their buyers.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Female buyers aged 20-30 interested in nails fashion.

DESIGN CONCEPT

For the “Nail Colors For Outings” campaign, I designed 5 themes that are relatable to people’s daily activities. The idea is to make nail polish brands feel approachable byhaving the products living in these themes with a series of characters & environments.

IDEA EXPLORATION

I explored visual cues such as—vanity shots, model imagery, still life & ingredients photography. Then I summarized the ideas into 3 categories.

 

IDEA: EXPERIENCE

Miniature people engaging in outdoor activities with life-size products.

 

IDEA: STILL LIFE

Hands popped out of walls or grounds, wearing nail colors & holding objects that match the background color.

 

IDEA: ASSOCIATION

Associate a product with other playful objects. For instance, fragrance as a part of a hot air balloon.

 
 

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

I chose the “experience of daily activities”. It brings a refreshing feel & is approachable to the customers, and represents the “back-to-normal” post-pandemic lifestyle. I refined the idea to a solid concept with headline “Nail Colors For Outings” and 5 themes; “Beach Day”, “Date Night”, “Picnic At The Park”, “Fun Night Out“ and “Travelling“, each paired with illustrations.

 STYLE EXPLORATION

I looked into illustration styles that are commonly used for beauty products. I chose the modern style as it brings an easy-going, approachable, and down-to-earth vibe to the customers.

 

THEME: NAIL COLORS FOR OUTINGS

• PICNIC • BEACH DAY • FUN NIGHT OUT • TRAVEL • DATE NIGHT

I brainstormed the activities based on what people couldn’t do during the pandemic: travelling & nightlife, and the simple joys of life: sunny days & quality time.

For the picnic & beach theme, I picked vibrant, bright nail polish colors—orange, hot pink, & turquoise, to reflect the playfulness of a sunny day outing.

For the travel theme, I picked an elegant pink & white nail polish to reflect the classy & sophisticated look of travelling in Paris. And gold nail polish fits a night of glamour under city lights.
